The Yuwaya Ngarra-li Youth Justice Advisor, Peta MacGillivray, visited Walgett in May as we kick-start the implementation of the Youth Diversion Demonstration Model (‘the Model’), in our Children and Young People and Youth Justice focus areas of the Partnership. One of the key strategies under the Model (see diagram pictured) is working directly with Aboriginal children and young people, through a series of community-designed programs and activities that are Aboriginal community-led and culturally connected. As part of implementing the Model’s strategies, the Dharriwaa Elders Group have commenced recruiting the Yuwaya Ngarra-li Youth and Community Team locally from Walgett. We will introduce the new members of the Team as we continue to build-up and share more about the activities we will be running under the three strategies of the Model.
